AEMO will use RERT when there's a forecast reliability shortfall, e.g. extreme weather, generator failures, or transmission outages, and market-based responses are insufficient to maintain reliability.

Key details

Participant must be dedicated (not simultaneously bidding in the energy or FCAS markets during reserve periods)
AEMO notifies relevant reserve providers that activation is imminent and issues a dispatch instruction to contracted RERT participants.
Providers are paid availability and activation payments, as per their agreements.
