UKPN publishes details of Constraint Management Zones (CMZs), flexible capacity needed, and service windows. Providers wishing to participate must have eligible assets within these zones. UKPN accepts all operational assets, and some planned assets based on certain criteria.

Key details

Bidding is usually open for one week in summer and winter, with results issued up to 3 months after.
UKPN uses the SU (fixed volume of flexibility delivered at predefined times) and SA+OU (variable dispatch dependent on network need) products for their long term procurement. Dispatch instructions are sent on a long term delivery schedule.
Half hourly meter data must be submitted monthly for baseline and settlement calculations. The provider is paid a utilisation fee for SU, and an availability and utilisation fee for SA+OU.
